teal & silver holly

Hello friends. I’m back with another of the sets in Clarity’s Barbara’s Big Blooms collection – this time I’ve gone with the A5 square Holly Leaves set. It’s a perfect Christmas set, drawn by Barbara, but I’ve put a contemporary twist on the images with a teal and silver colour combo.

I cut a piece of card to fit on a 5×7 card blank and first stamped the long holly stem in Versamark clear ink, adding one of the holly leaf trios at the base of the stem. I heat embossed them with WOW’s super fine silver metallic powder, then added the other holly stem alongside. I smooshed a little ‘peacock feathers’ Distress Oxide onto a mix mat, then picked it up with a waterbrush to colour in the leaves. The berries were filled in with a silver metallic gel pen.

I mounted the topper on a layer of Antarctica companion paper and attached it to a 5×7 card blank. I then stamped and heat embossed the sentiment on an offcut of white card and cut a banner shape into the end. I mounted it on a strip of the Antarctica paper that I’d also trimmed with a banner end – the easiest way to do this was to cut the Antarctica to the right width, then use the end of the white card as a template for my scissors to cut the banner shape. I then simply slid the paper out from the white card to edge the banner cut, glued it into place and cut the straight end along the card.

So I’ve played along with a few more challenges in this card, taking the layout from Freshly Made Sketches, the tones from Color Hues and ‘anything goes’ for Peace on Earth, who are celebrating their 100th challenge!

  1. I almost can’t make a Christmas card without using Holly somewhere. This is very striking in Teal and Silver, Deborah! Your embossing is so good! I am so happy you joined us at Color Hues.
