I’m back again, this time with our new challenge at As You See It, which is a speed one! Heather’s challenged us to make a card in 10 minutes or less on the theme of apples – and it really was a challenge for me, not least because these ones get my pulse racing but also because I don’t have any apple stamps or products from Clarity! Time to get creative, so after a bit of thinking, I came up with a plan to make an apple tree using the South Downs Treescape stamp set, one of the Landscapes Backdrop Prints toppers and a little dot stamp for the apples that I remembered is in the Just Flowers set.

Now, there are no step-by-step photos for this one – I had no time for that with the clock counting down! What we ask you to do for our speed challenges is to get everything together before you start, including mounting any stamps, etc, but then start the clock as soon as you cut the first piece of paper or ink a stamp.

Having chosen one of the toppers in advance, I started the timer on my phone, inked the tree with ‘potting soil’ Archival ink and stamped it into place. I’d got the little leaf stamp mounted on a stamp pen and started to fill out the branches using ‘peeled paint’ Distress Oxide. I scattered a few apples with the dot stamp (also on a stamp pen) through the leaves in ‘candied apple’ (of course!) and then finished filling in the leaves before adding a few windfall apples on the ground. I have to say, the stamp pens make repeat stamping very quick and easy. I added the skein of geese heading south for the winter and a sentiment from the I Am Essential – Birthday set. I quickly cut the topper to a square, ran a Sharpie around the edges and attached it to a 6×6 card blank, at which point I could stop the clock!

And how did I do for time? I was pretty pleased to bring it in at just under 7 1/2 minutes. How will you do with your apples cards – we’re looking forward to seeing you in the As You See It gallery.

Lovely background and a good use of stamps. Not sure I’ll have time to play in this challenge but perhaps.

Wow – that’s amazing in such a short time! Although I do think I spend so much time faffing around finding things so maybe the actual making time is less than I think!
Lovely card

That’s a lovely windswept autumn scene. Fantastic creation and well within the time limit. I think we get better at the speed challenge the more of them we do! I think the apple theme has not only forced us to move quickly but also to be very creative – I was stumped for apple stamps or papers too!

I love your creative little apple tree Deborah – the background is a great way to add a quick splash of colour too. I think we were all challenged for this one, not just in terms of time!!

Thanks Joanne – there did seem to be a lack of apple based supplies amongst the design team!
