a touch of orange

Hello crafty friends. Well, its been grey and raining here this afternoon so a perfect day for crafting! I managed to make a few batches of Christmas cards for sale (I’m well behind after going globe trotting last month!) but then also grabbed a few minutes to make this card using Clarity’s Woodland Bird Tree art block stamp. We have a mid-month challenge running on Clarity’s Mini Makes & ATCs Facebook page and this time it’s to use black & white with a touch of orange, which was the initial thought behind this design. I took inspiration from Freshly Made Sketches‘ layout, added in the ‘foliage’ theme from The Paper Players‘ CAS challenge and this is the result.

I first cut a topper down to fit on an A6 card blank and stamped the art block image onto it in black ink. When I’ve got solid surface stamps like this, I tend to put Archival ink on it first to get the crisp outline, then add Versafine Clair which is juicier and helps to fill in the image. Once the ink was dry, I added a little shading to the leaves with a couple of orange Pergaliner pencils.

I decided to add a narrow orange frame with a piece of Indian Summer companion paper, which I edged with a black Sharpie before mounting it (I always use a ruler when edging paper so my pen doesn’t slip!) Having popped it onto the card blank, I finished it off with one of the KISS word stickers.

Nice and simple – just the way I like it!

  1. That tiny touch of colour makes all the difference, especially when you have added in that narrow border of the same colour. Lovely card, Deborah. Thanks for joining in with us at The Paper Players.

  2. The bit of color in the leaves not only makes an impact, but it is also a great way to tie in the colored bordered, Deborah! Clean, simple and perfect! Thank you for playing with The Paper Players this week!

  3. The tree is such a sweet image and I love the arch shape the stamp creates. The touch of orange on the leaves is all that’s need. It’s a wonderful CAS card, which you always do so well! Thank you for taking time to join us this week at the Paper Players!
