it’s your birthday today

Hello crafty friends. I had some time to play this afternoon and was inspired by Jilly from Clarity’s post on Barbara Gray’s blog (Barb’s taking a break at the moment) showcasing their watercolour pads. It reminded me that I made some watercolour backgrounds a couple of years ago that have been languishing in my stash pile, so it was time to put one into action with Clarity’s Dream Believe Hope Flowers stamps.

I’ve incorporated several challenges into this little creation, starting with the ‘purple’ addition from The Flower Challenge and the birthday theme from Addicted to Stamps. The sentiment pulls in Word Power and my little background is definitely Neglected Stuff!

So, starting with the background – that was made by dividing one of the A4 watercolour pages into four with low tack tape and brushing Distress Oxides across it (I think I used ‘broken china’, ‘saltwater taffy’ & ‘dried marigold’.) Once dry, I cut the page into quarters.

I stamped the floral spray onto the background and shaded it with Pergaliner pencils, before adding the sentiment from the I Am Essential – Birthday set.

Finally, I mounted the topper onto an A6 card blank that I’d covered with a piece of Antarctica companion paper.

It is so satisfying to get another background piece used up from my way-too-large stash – thanks Jilly!

  4. I have a big stash of ink blended and sprayed backgrounds but not any in watercolor. I love yours, Deborah; the colors blend beautifully together and are perfect for this dainty flower stamp! Thank you so much for joining us at The Flower Challenge and giving me incentive to create some watercolor backgrounds!
