Hello crafty friends. I’ve been playing today with another of the goodies from September’s Clarity Craft Club – this time the stencil (#136 square framework). I said the other day that I need to make better use of my stencils stash, so this is a good start. It’s a great background and I built a little autumnal scene onto it with the Woodland Treescape stamp set.

I’ve pulled a few challenges together into this one, starting with the palette at Color Hues and the ombre theme at AAA Birthday. Cardz4Guyz want autumn cards and Allsorts are looking for woodland creatures – read on to see how I combined them all.

I started with a square of Clarity’s stencil card that I’d cut down to be slightly smaller than the stencil. That meant I could lay it over the card and attached it to a piece of scrap paper underneath using low tack tape – it’s a frameless stencil so I couldn’t hinge it to the card as I normally would. I then blended three shades of Distress Oxide across it with my stencil brushes – ‘squeezed lemonade’, ‘carved pumpkin’ and ‘ripe persimmon’.

Turning to the woodland treescape stamps, I stamped the tree stem in ‘potting soil’ Archival ink. I added the leaves individually, putting the stamp on a stamp pen and dotting them on the edges of ‘carved pumpkin’ and ‘barn door’ Distress Oxides inkpads to blend the colours before stamping.

I added a little grey squirrel into the tree with ‘watering can’ Archival and the hare from the stamp set in ‘sepia’. The sentiment from the I Am Essential – Birthday set fitted perfectly, before I ran a Sharpie around the edges and attached it to a 6×6 card blank.

I rather like the mix of the stencil background against the tree scene – what do you think?
