painted background

Hello crafty friends. I’ve been tidying up my folder from this week’s Clarity summer retreat. We spent the time making lots of different backgrounds with acrylic paints, so I have a fab pile of different techniques to add to my stash. I needed a quick birthday card for a friend, so decided to make use of one of them by adding a few of the Build a Landscape stamps and one of the new Birthday Sentiments.

This session was so much fun – we were making postcard sized backgrounds by dragging acrylic paint onto stencil card using small palette knives. I just love the effects we all managed to create.

All I needed to do this afternoon was add a few of the Build a Landscape trees, one of the birthday sentiments and the eagle from the Just Woodland & Birds stamps, all with black Archival ink (you need a permanent ink on acrylic paint). I was cross with myself as my sentiment stamp slipped slightly and so it’s a little smudged, but I think it’s OK. For the card base, I cut down a 6×6 card blank so the topper was framed equally around each side.

Now, playing with acrylic paints isn’t my usual crafting medium but it was such fun to try new techniques – and this one with the palette knife was actually fairly controlled. Nothing too messy to trouble my CAS heart!
