I for ink blending at Alphabet Challenge

Hello crafty friends. I’ve got a couple of posts to share with you today and this first one kicks off our new theme of ink blending at Alphabet Challenge with a New York morning view using the new Sketchy stamps from Clarity that Barbara is launching live at 10am this morning on Clarity Social TV. I’ve happily managed to combine a couple of other challenges into this card too, thanks to the shades at Color Dare and the prompt to ‘create a scene’ at Cardz4Galz.

I started with a piece of card cut to fit on a 5×7 card blank and first stamped the larger Statue of Liberty onto it in black Archival ink. I cut a mask for it from Clarity’s blank material, then overlaid it with the New York Skyline mask and a moon. I then used brushes to blend ‘tumbled glass’ and ‘carved pumpkin’ Distress Oxides into the sky, deepening the colour behind the buildings with a sponge.

Keeping the mask on the statue, I swapped the New York Skyline mask for the upper part to cover the sky then brushed ‘hickory smoke’ Distress Oxide down from it to colour the buildings. I switched the moon mask to the outer part and blended ‘squeezed lemonade’ and a little of the ‘carved pumpkin’ to create the sun behind the statue.

Having removed all the masks, I shaded Lady Liberty with Pergaliner pencils, then added the New York stamp from the set in the black Archival (so good, they named it twice!) Finally, I ran a black Sharpie around the card edges and then attached it to the 5×7 blank.

I do love a bit of ink blending (you may have noticed…) and these colours came together so well to create a sunny early morning in the Big Apple!
