Clarity Craft Club – spots & stripes stencil

Hello crafty friends. Today I’ve got the stencil from last month’s Clarity Craft Club to share with you – it’s a fabulous background design with spots, stripes and apertures. I took inspiration from the card by my good friend Jane on the project sheet that comes with the Craft Club goodies each month, although I changed the colours I used. I took my palette from the current shades at Creative Colour and picked up the ‘masculine’ theme from Make My Monday.

I started with a piece of card cut to fit on a 5×7 blank, positioned the stencil over it and masked off the spotty and striped sections. I pulled out the 6×6 South Downs mask set from the landscape collection and followed Jane’s instructions for laying it over the stencil. I could then brush ‘carved pumpkin’, ‘wilted violet’ and ‘rustic wilderness’ Distress Oxides across the mask to create my landscape, using sponges to deepen the colours where I wanted extra shading.

I dragged a little of the ‘carved pumpkin’ across the sun with a sponge, then brushed the three colours into the spots and stripes sections of the stencil

Having created my background, I stamped a few of the trees from the Build a Landscape set with black Archival ink and added the little trio of birds from the Just Woodland & Birds set. After running a black Sharpie around the edges of the topper, I attached it to the 5×7 card blank and finished with one of the KISS word stickers.

So, having shared my favourite shades with you yesterday, I stepped right out of my comfort zone with this trio today but I rather like them!
