garden birds cut card kit

Hello friends. It’s Sunday again and I’ve got another of my demo cards from Friday’s Clarity Social TV to share with you! This time, I put the garden birds cut card kit into action – I really am getting into these shaped die cut cards and they’re also 30% off in this weekend’s Clarity sale, which runs until midnight on Monday. Love a bargain!

As ever, I pulled a few blog challenges together into this card, starting with the word prompt from AAA Cards – I’ve taken ‘colours’ along with ‘summer’. My garden birds are another of the Bs for Triple B and Cardz4Galz are looking for fun folds this time round (I hope my shaped card counts!)

Apologeis for the lack of step-by-step photos today – I seem to have missed doing them! It’s simple enough though… I took one of the large bird card blanks and stamped the bird from the A5 set onto it using black Archival ink (you do need to get the stamp well inked up for this as it’s a larger one). I found it easiest to keep my card blank folded, anchored it to my black craft mat with low tack tape so I could clearly see the edges through my mount and then stamped the bird onto it. I did the same with one of the small die-cut toppers and the bird stamp from the A6 set. I then set about shading them in with Pergaliner pencils, so they look like bluetits. Now, my pencil shading is not always the best, so I used a blending nib and Dorso oil to smooth out the pigment on the card (you can only do this with the B pencils as they’re oil based – the As are watercolour ones so don’t react to the Dorso oil). I then used a dab of glue to attach the little bird topper to the inside of the rear piece of the card blank – you just need a little on the tip of his wing.

I cut a strip of Antarctica designer paper from an offcut, glued that across the card base and added the sentiment from the A6 stamp set.

And that was it! Most of the work on this was in the colouring, but attaching the smaller bird to the rear of the card does give a sense of perspective when the card is stood up, with him flying further off, don’t you think?

  1. This definitely qualifies as a shaped card and what a beauty it is. Your colouring is amazing and I love the entire card. Thanks for joining us at Cardz4galz, Johanna DT
