Getting square at As You See It challenge

Hello again! I’m back with a second card thanks to our new challenge at As You See It – this time round we’re asking you to ‘fill in the blank’ with what one shape you would use on a card. You may have noticed already, but it’s squares for me! I tend to use square card blanks and everything else flows from that, but this time I’ve really gone for it – including the card base I’ve counted six squares on this one!

I pulled out Clarity’s Seashore three way overlay stamp set (I really enjoy building up the colour with these stamps), picking up ‘trees’ & ‘beach’ from the Choose Two challenge at Just Add Ink and the ‘sun, sea & sand’ at We Love Stamping

So stand by for a surfeit of squares! I took one of Clarity’s small card squares and embossed a frame around the edge using a small square embedder. I then stamped the outline seagull image into the centre, followed by the infill stamp having sponged ‘gathered twigs’ Distress Ink onto it, with a little ‘weathered wood’ onto the gull.

I switched to the background stamp, this time sponging ‘scattered straw’ and ‘wild honey’ on the lower section with ‘broken china’ into the sky. I added a little shading to the gull with a grey Polychromo pencil.

I then added a few more squares to finish, using the next size up embedder to emboss onto the front of a 6×6 card blank and adding a mount of Waimea Falls companion paper to the topper.

This little scene looks like the gull is sitting in some foliage at the top of a sand dune, don’t you think? So, having shared my penchant for squares on my cards, what’s your favourite shape? Come and share it with us at As You see It Challenge.
