a quick landscape card

Hello crafty friends. My goodness, it’s hot here in the South East of England! I spent the afternoon sweltering in my spare room on an online meeting (it felt like I was in a sauna!) and no wonder – when I got in the car to go and pick up a parcel the temperature gauge read 35 degrees! I think officially it was 32 degrees in London today, but tomorrow is forecast to be higher… I did manage to escape into my craft room for a little while this morning (I’m working on some secret stuff) but grabbed a few minutes to make this little CAS card using one of the tags in the Landscape Backdrop Prints bundle with a couple of the stamps from the Mega Build a Landscape set.

I’ve pulled a couple of challenges together for this one. I took the top row from The Paper Players‘ grid with CAS, square card & something that flies; helpfully Seize the Birthday are looking for silhouettes, so these little stamps were ideal.

There are so many beautiful prints to choose from in the set – in the end I just grabbed one of the tags and went with it (I’d have been been there all day stroking them otherwise!) I ran a piece of low tack tape across the bottom of the printed section to give me a guideline, which helpfully also stuck it down to my craft mat – always useful with the little toppers. I stamped the wishing well and the lamp post from the Build a Landscape set, using black Archival ink, then added a little bird from the Garden Miniatures set and my favourite trio in flight from the Just Woodland & Birds set. Mind you, I think this little chap has been spending too much time tucking in at the bird table, given the size of him on the wishing well!

I kept the low tack tape in place while I added ground under the wishing well & lamp post with a grey Polychromo pencil, then popped one of the Birthday Rub On sentiments below it and ran round the topper edges with a black Sharpie. I wanted an embossed frame on the front of my 5×5 card blank but the smallest rectangular embedder was the right width but too long. So I could line it up accurately to shorten the embedder, I stuck the topper in place first then sat the embedder over it (I could see the topper edges through the embedder). I then embossed the top and partway down each side with my ball tool, before repositioning the embedder so the bottom edge was in the right place and finished going round it.

Phew – that feels like a lot of narrative for a pretty quick card – it really didn’t seem that complicated at the time!

  1. Brilliant card – love the composition you chose for the images.

And sweltering up here in the NW England too – plus hayfever hit bad today so I’ve retreated to a dark bedroom with a fan and a wet flannel! I am not made for this type of weather!

  2. Oh my, I just LOVE this little image…such a fun set to be able to use to put together lots of elements for a little scene! Adorable! I can sympathize on the hot car…my car was parked in our driveway as we were prepping for a yard sale, and when I got in to go to do errands, it was 102 degrees F inside….broiling! Stay cool! And thanks for sharing this with us this week at the Players!

  3. The moody background, the well-chosen stamped images and pretty sentiment (along with all that glorious white space) makes for a gorgeous card! Thanks for playing along with us at The Paper Players.
