summer poppies

Hello friends and welcome to Sunday’s post! I’ve dipped back to one of my favourites images for today’s card, with Linda’s Poppies stamps – they were the obvious choice when I saw the inspiration photo at Just Us Girls and obviously also fit the ‘blooms’ aspect at Triple B.

I started with one of Clarity’s 3.5″ stencil card squares and stamped the poppies with black Archival ink. The stamps come with a pre-cut masks, so I was easily able to cover the flowers to then add my sky by brushing ‘broken china’ Distress Oxide across the clouds mask before brushing a little ‘pumice stone’ across the bottom.

Now this is a tale of pencil colouring! I used Pergaliners B11 & B13 to add colour to the poppies, but was struggling to get my shading evenly blended, as you can see. I reached for the Dorso oil and a blending nib to then smooth out the pigment on the poppies (you can really see the difference!) before shading the stems & seedheads in green and the poppy centres in black.

I added a mount of Antarctica Companion paper to the topper then sat it within an embossed frame that I’d created on the front of a 6×6 card blank with my favourite square embedder. Finally, I ran a black Sharpie around the edges of a KISS word sticker and popped that on the card front.

And the best thing about creating this card is that everything I’ve used is in Clarity’s Half Price Members’ Sale, which runs until midnight tomorrow (Monday 23rd). There’s still time to sign up if you’re not already in one of their Craft Clubs and get some last minute bargains!
