E for Embossing at Alphabet Challenge

Good morning everyone! I’ve got a busy day on this little blog, with two more cards to come after this one – and I’ve not made a good start by forgetting to schedule this first one on time for the start of Alphabet Challenge‘s new theme! What’s even worse is that I’m hosting the challenge this time (the Alphabet blog is already posted and live!) We’re on to E this time and so I opted for embossing – either heat or dry, you get to choose. I do love the depth of image you get from embossing stencils, so pulled out Clarity’s poppies for this one.

I incorporated three other challenges into this card too, starting with the beautiful tones from Color Dare. I took the bottom row of ink blending, floral & enamel dots from TicTacToe‘s grid and went for a second go at The Flower Challenge‘s embossing theme too. And, unusually for me, there is absolutely no stamping on either of these cards so I’m sharing them at AAA Birthday!

The first step was to emboss the stencil onto a 7×7 square of Clarity’s stencil card – I christened my new Kit N Caboodle die cutting machine for this, having invested in it last month! I ran the stencil & card through using the embossing mat and got a beautiful depth on the image.

Keeping the stencil over the embossed image, I carefully brushed Distress Oxides through it onto the embossed flowers – ‘picked raspberry’ & ‘spun sugar’ onto the poppies, ‘salty ocean’ onto the seed pods’ and ‘mowed lawn’ for the stems & leaves. I could have done this with spot-on sponges, but wanted the slightly softer effect from the brushes.

I decided to cut the stencilled image down to make two cards. For this first one, I used a 5×7 card blank, mounting the topper on a layer of Indian Summer companion paper and using a rectangle embedder for the frame on the card front (I had to do that in two stages as I needed to widen it to be the right size for the topper). I finished with one of the birthday stickers mounted on a scrap of the companion paper and added two enamel dots – I’ve got loads of these in a box and have got out of the habit of using them, so good to have the prompt from TicTacToe)

The second card is the remaining strip of the image, again mounted on the companion paper, this with with one of the new Rub On sentiments and attached to a 6×6 card blank. Lots of lovely white space on this one, to keep my CAS heart happy!
