Small monarch butterfly

Hello crafty friends. I’m still working through sharing my demos from last Friday’s Clarity Social TV, so here’s the small monarch butterfly using the stamp and the die set (but without the stand).

I’ve picked up the lovely tones from Color Hues on this one and incorporated the frame theme from Seize the Birthday

My first step was to use the solid die to cut out a butterfly from white card. In order to make sure I stamped the wings accurately I used a piece of low tack tape to hold the die cut on my craft mat, then used spot-on sponges to blend ‘picked raspberry’ and ‘villainous potion’ Distress Oxides onto one of the wing stamps and added it to the die cut.

I repeated the process with the other wing and stamped the butterfly’s body with black Archival ink. Now, because this die cut is designed to fold over to sit in the stand, at this point my butterfly had two bodies! Simple solution – cut it in half between the two bodies and then glue one on top of the other.

I cut a topper from stencil card using one of the dots doodle frame-it panel dies, then used a nested embedder to emboss an inner frame onto it. I wanted to give my butterfly her antennae, so sat the die cut on the topper and made a pencil mark so I could stamp them in the right place before gluing the butterfly down. I added a mount of Rainbow River companion paper and attached the whole piece to a 5×5 card blank.

This makes such a pretty butterfly topper – I may be making more using some of the other stamps in the collection to decorate them.

  4. Hello Deborah, Great job combining both the challenges! Love the multi colored butterfly and the dotted frame. It might be a CAS card, but it is just perfectly executed! Thanks for playing at both Color Hues and Seize the Birthday.
