Celebrate!

Hello crafty friends. Well the weekend’s nearly over, but there’s more excitement coming up tomorrow at on Clarity Social TV at 2pm when Barbara is launching some more new goodies – the fab little SHAC people stamps have been reconfigured into larger images! A couple of things have inspired this little card of mine – it’s been a week of VE Day 80th anniversary celebrations here in the UK, plus I heard the Spice Girls on the radio and remembered Geri Hallwell’s Union Jack dress!

This little lady from Set 3 of the new stamps really looks like she was ready to party as part of the VE Day celebrations, so I’ve picked up the ‘fiesta’ theme from Addicted to CAS and Color Throwdown has the perfect combination of patriotic colours!

Now, I have a wee bit of a confession as well, as this card is bascially a CASE (Copy & Selectively Edit) of the layout from my recent King of the Castle card! I started by stamping party girl onto one of Clarity’s 3.5″ stencil card squares and then ran low tack tape around the outer edges of her dress. I pulled out the royal celebration set to then stamp the two-part Union Jack onto her dress using ‘red geranium’ and ‘cobalt’ Archival inks.

I cut a mask for her dress from Clarity’s blank material and then overlaid the London skyline mask. I put down an ‘undercoat’ of ‘pumice stone’ Distress Oxide, brushing downwards from the mask, then used a sponge to add shade with ‘hickory smoke’.

Having lifted the London mask off, I turned to my favourite clouds one and brushed ‘broken china’ across it for the sky (we have had some good weather here this week!) I added the sentiment from the Royal Celebrations set, followed by a mount of navy card and attached it to a 5×5 card blank.

I’m very fortunate to live on the flight path that the RAF flypast aircraft take into central London for national celebrations, so I just have to stand in my garden as the planes come over at low altitude (usually about 2,500 feet). Having the Red Arrows go over the house last Monday was an exciting moment!

  1. What an amazing card and I love how you were inspired by the 80th anniversary of VE day. You captured beautifully what must have been a glorious day, 80 years ago. Thanks for joining us at Addicted to CAS. Apologies for the late comment.
