B for butterflies at Alphabet Challenge

Hello friends! It’s a busy couple of days with blog challenge DT posts – after two cards to share yesterday, I’ve got another couple coming today! Here’s the first one for our new theme of B for Butterflies at Alphabet Challenge – don’t miss the fact that it’s plural, as we want to see at least three butterflies on your crafty creations! Now, I know I said last week that I was putting Clarity’s spring build a wreath stamps away for a while, but that didn’t last very long and they’re back out for a quick airing today in partnership with the butterfly wreath set!

I also managed to pull three other challenges together into this card, starting with the colours and leafy sprays from The Card Concept‘s inspiration photo. The layout is courtesy of Atlantic Hearts, with the stencilling for Seize the Birthday

So, onto my process. I cut a piece of card to A6 size and started by lightly brushing ‘tumbled glass’ Distress Oxide through Clarity’s thin stripes stencil. I then stamped the larger butterfly and two smaller ones across the stencilled area.

I covered the butterflies with the pre-cut masks that come with the stamps, then set about building a spray of leaves with the spring build-a-wreath stamps, using ‘lucky clover’ Distress Oxide in first and second generation.

I added little flowers from the set amongst the leaves with ‘tumbled glass’ and ‘tattered rose’ Oxides, then shaded in the butterflies with my Pergaliner pencils.

After stamping the sentiment from the occasions set, I added a mount of Antarctica companion paper and attached the topper to a 5×7 card blank.

It did make me happy to have the build a wreath stamps out again, but I then put them straight away as I’ve got lots of other stuff to be getting on with! I’ve seen a few butterflies in the garden recently – they’re clearly out and about with the warm weather we’re now having.

  4. This is just beautiful! How cool that the stamps come with masks! So much easier to create the background that way, which is very pretty! Nice stenciling as well! A lovely spring creation! Thanks for using our sketch at Atlantic Hearts this week!
