village harbour

Hello crafty friends! I know I say this every time, but my goodness, the hour goes so quicky on Clarity Social TV – I overran again with this morning’s 10am show, so thought I’d share one of the demos here while I grab a spot of lunch! It’s the same village and harbour set as I used yesterday, but with a rather different feel this time as we’re sitting at the seaside!

Now, you know I love a bit of masking and scene building so this one is totally in my confort zone! I started with a piece of Clarity’s stencil card that I’d cut to 5″ square and first stamped the row of cottages across the centre. The stamp isn’t long enough to go all the way across, so I lined it up again from the left hand side and addded another house on the end – the trick with this is to join up the line along the bottom of the cottages, so I popped a little low tack tape across the end of the first stamped row (just leaving the edge showing). That way I could overlap the line without getting a very thick stamped image. I then added the smaller of the two trees, the large seagull and two rowing boats.

I was then on to start masking! This is one of Clarity’s older stamp sets, so doesn’t come with precut masks, but it’s very easy to make your own using their blank mask material. As you can see, I cut ones for the seagull and the rowing boats (I covered my first two boats before stamping the third one). I also ran a piece of low tack tape across the cottages, so that I could then lightly brush ‘salty ocean’ Distress Oxide into the harbour area for my water. Now it looked quite flat at this point, so I fished out (!) the ‘by the seaside‘ mixed impressions stamps to add some texture to it. I used the top part of the second largest stamp, inked it with the ‘salty ocean’ and randomly stamped it into the water.

I added the sky using Clarity’s clouds mask, lightly brushing ‘broken china’ ink across it, then shaded the cottages with Pergaliner pencilsand grey Polychromos for the boats and gull.

With a simple black card mount and a couple of stamps from the ‘occasions sentiments – birthday’ set, it was finished, sitting neatly on the 6×6 card blank. This little scene reminds me of those pretty little Cornish fishing villages.

Thanks for dropping in – I’m back on air at 2pm with a look at a couple more of Clarity’s word framer stamps. Before then, I’m going to share this card with Addicted to Stamps & More – their theme is ‘make your mark’ and I’ve certainly done lots on here with pencils, brushed ink and stamping!

  1. I just love how you created the water for this scene. It is clever and effective. The stamp set is certainly one that can be used over and over and create something different each time.
