Welcome to Tuesday – the Easter break is over and normal life has resumed! I’ve put another die that I haven’t used for some time back into action today, Clarity’s funky foliage, using a bit of paper piecing to highlight the detail.

I decided that the two tones from Color Dare would work to give the die cut a spring feel, and I’ve incorporated the layers theme from Seize the Birthday. As I said above, this die hasn’t been out for a while (I checked back in my blog posts and it’s exactly three years!), so I’ll also pop it in the Neglected Stuff gallery.

So, I started with a square of white card and brushed ‘carved pumpkin’ Distress Oxide across Clarity’s clouds mask to create my sky. I then cut the die into a piece of Waimea Falls companion paper, having first put Stick It thin adhesive sheet onto the reverse. I left the bottom strip of paper but trimmed the other three sides of the die from the frame and attached it to the stencil card. I found a matching piece of Waimea Falls designer paper that had the right tones in it to use for my paper piecing – the easiest way was to cut off the section I wanted for each part of the die, so I cut each of the flower heads from pieces of the orange part of the paper (again with Stick It on the reverse) and stuck them into the die cut. I then picked out the green area of the designer paper, cut the leaves and added those pieces too. It’s a bit like doing a jigsaw, but with a mirror image – the trick is to keep the pieces in the die and work from the back to take one out at a time. Hopefully that way you don’t lose any!

I didn’t have a large enough piece of the Waimea Falls companion paper in my folder to cover the whole of the card front (I need to get an order in!), so I took the widest section I had. I do like the partial effect though – it breaks the squares up a bit. The final touch was one of the KISS word stickers.

And speaking of orders, it’s the last chance to pick up this die and a range of others for just £3 each in Clarity’s Easter sale which ends at midnight tonight! I think it’s been very popular!

Great use of the colours – I do like to do a little paper-piecing sometimes too – I just have to be in the fiddly mood xx

Me too – I often get halfway through and think ‘why did I decide to do this…?’!

After seeing Jenn’s ‘cannabis’ card, I now see a pot leaf in your design. lol Not sure that it’s supposed to be one, but … lol Your cards are always so classy looking and this one is no exception. Thank you for sharing with us at Color Dare.
