Clarity Craft Club – butterflies & bugs

Hello everyone! After using the March Clarity Crafts Club stencil on yesterday’s card, I’m back with the stamp from last month’s club today – it’s a silhouette of insects which I paired with Tina’s floral spray, one of my favourite Clarity stamps.

There’s a couple of blog challenges featuring in this one – I took the tones from Color Hues and two of the Bs (butterflies & blooms) from TripleB.

The first step was to stamp the floral spray onto a small square of stencil card using black Versafine Clair ink, then colour it with Pergaliner pencils. I didn’t have a teal shade, so blended turquoise and green together on the leaves.

I wanted the butterflies, etc, to be hovering over the flowers so first masked off the lower three in the circle with low tack tape once the stamp was on my mount. I’m staying with my sister at the moment, so raided her ink stash to find teal and orange pads, which I sponged onto the insects – after lifting the low tack tape, I stamped them above the flowers. I then used a black micron pen to fill in the butterflies’ bodies and outline the bees & ladybird.

The white stencil card looked a bit stark, so I brushed the teal ink in from the card edges to soften the background, before edging it with a black Sharpie. I added one of the bijou retro sentiments and then attached the topper to a 5×5 card blank.

Thanks for dropping in! I have to say Clarity’s monthly Craft Club is great value for both stamps & stencils, and I’m so far keeping up with my resolution to put them into action every month instead of just filing them away! The April ones have already arrived through my letterbox and will be appearing on here in a couple of weeks.
