‘Japanese tricolor’ monstera plant

Hello crafty friends.  I’m sitting firmly in my happy CAS space with today’s card using the fab little Swiss Cheese plant (otherwise known as a monstera) from set 1 of Clarity‘s brand new ‘potted plants‘ stamps.  Now, as you know, it’s Japan month over at Clarity and I was trying to think how I could work an oriental theme into these little plants – bonsai was an option, but then I came across a variety of the monstera plant called the ‘Japanese tricolor adasonii’!  Perfect!

The first stage of this was easy, as I embossed a frame onto the front of a 5×5 card blank useng one of Clarity’s embedders, then stamped the plant outline onto the card using ‘library green’ Archival ink. I wanted a texture feel to the pot, so inked up the infill stamp with both ‘rustic wilderness’ and ‘iced spruce’ Distress Oxides, tapping it straight onto the ink pads without any sponging. I added the leaves infill in ‘antique linen’, then used light and dark green Pergaliner pencils (B6 & B7) over the images to get the variegated look.

As the plant’s got a Japanese name, it felt only right to finish with one of the ‘bijou Japanese symbols’ stamps.

There seem to be lots of green & plant focused challenges around at the moment, so this one’s heading off to the galleries at Double D and Simply Clean & Simple.
