waterlilies birthday card

Hello there. I thought I’d do something different today having put the new Japanese sampler stamps away – Clarity Crafts have made March their Japanese month, so I fished out the ‘peace square‘ aperture framer die with it’s beautiful waterlilies pattern. It’s unusual for me not to have any stamping on my cards, but I took my inspiration from the themes at Seize the Birthday and Just Us Girls – no ink was used in the production of this card!!

These lovely square dies cut an aperture into the paper (they have no outer cutting edge, so you need to use a nested square die if you want them as a separate topper) but I decided to cut it straight into the front of a 6×6 card blank. It was then an easy matter to cut a piece of Waimea Falls designer paper and glue it to the inside of the card front.

Now I haven’t used an embedder on my cards for the last couple of days, so couldn’t let that go on much longer! I used a small square one to emboss a frame around the central square – I really should have done this before gluing the paper onto the card front, but it was still thin enough to work through the paper and the card (although I would have got a sharper embossed edge without the paper on the back). I took an offcut of the designer paper and ran it back through the die to get one of the corner flowers, which I trimmed out of the frame with scissors – I’d put Stick It thin adhesive sheet on the back of the paper so I could easily stick the flower down. I then simply mounted a Pinky Gray greetings sticker onto another bit of the designer paper and popped it into place.

Clarity have got such a fantastic range of Japanese inspired products, so there’s lots more to come from me before the end of the month – and what’s even better is that there’s a 10% discount on their website with the code JAPAN10. Happy shopping!
