speedy punching at As You See It challenge

I’m back with a second offering today. thanks to our new ‘use a punch’ theme at As You See It Challenge – and it’s the dreaded speed one, which means your card has to be made in under 10 minutes! This does force me to to be organised and plan my card before starting – no time to chop & change my mind as I go along (or to take ‘in progress’ photos!). We’re celebrating all things Japanese at Clarity Crafts this month and I’ve got another look at the brand new ‘Japanese flowers & butterflies sampler‘ stamp set for you.

I’ve picked up a couple of other challenges in this one, as well. Just Add Ink are looking for simple & elegant cards (I hope this fits the bill!) and my floral wreath works for the ‘circles’ theme at The Flower Challenge.

So here’s a quick run down on what I did for this one, having got everything I need together on my desk and ready to go. I pressed ‘start’ on my stopwatch, started with a 11.5cm (4.5inch) square of stencil card and traced a pencil circle onto it using a nested embedder. I had already mounted the large & small waterlily stamps onto holder, so had my ‘wilted violet’ & ‘salty ocean’ ink pads open and stamped the flowers alternately round the circle, starting from the top and working down both sides. There wasn’t enough space for a final large one at the bottom, so I stamped the little one in the violet to fill in the gap. I sponged the ‘salty ocean’ onto the butterly to sit in the centre, together with the ‘peace’ sentiment from the set in ‘watering can’ Archival ink. I cut a mount for my card from Toscana companion paper (0.5cm larger than the topper) and used the curved corner craft punch in each corner, to then slip the topper through it. I could then run tape onto the back of the topper, catching the corners so the white card so it was held in place, and stick it to my 5×5 card blank.

Phew! This challenge always gets my pulse racing with the timer running next to me, but this was a bit of a result at under 8 minutes! Are you up for our speedy challenge? Don’t forget to use a punch somewhere on your card and tell us how long you took. See you in the gallery!

  1. A beautiful card in colours I love. The corners look great. I may have trouble participating in this challenge because I currently cannot use a punch in any shape or form. Can’t even use a stapler at the moment. We will see …
