Mum’s cake

Hello everyone – I’ve got the last of my samples from Friday’s Clarity Social TV shows to share with you today, using the lovely ‘mini hobbies – baking‘ stamp set. I created the border with Clarity’s ‘vertical stripes box‘ stencil, which fits pefectly with the theme at Just Us Girls – read on for the details…

I wanted a nice gingham cloth effect for the border, and started by laying the stencil on a piece of Clarity’s 7×7 stencil card. It comes with the centre piece as well, so I popped that in place with some doubled over low tack tape to act as a mask and brushed ‘kitsch flamingo’ Distress Oxide through it. I left the centre square in place, rotated the stripes stencil 90 degrees to sit the opposite way, and then brushed ‘shaded lilac’ through it to give me the checked effect.I didn’t move the centre square still, just lifted the main stencil off so that I could turn the card over and use the central piece as an embedder to emboss a frame around the blank box.

I picked out the cake and stand, together with the little tea service to create my little afternoon tea scene. As you can see, I cut masks from Clarity’s blank material for the cake, teacup & milk jug so I could overlay the images.

Having removed all the masks, I shaded the cake and tea service with Pergaliner pencils before cutting the card down with a nested square die, leaving a narrow white border. I found a coordinating piece of Rainbow River companion paper as a mount and attached it to a 7×7 card blank. The final touch was a Pinky Gray greetings sticker, also mounted on a bit of the Rainbow River paper.

It’s Mother’s Day here in the UK at the end of March, and an afternoon tea struck me as the perfect theme! In fact, any of the mini hobbies stamp sets would work perfectly for this occasion, depending on what interests your mum has!
