Craft Club – bird on a branch stencil

Hello everyone. Well I’ve stepped right out of my CAS comfort zone today with more of a mixed media approach to this card, using the latest (January) stencil from Clarity‘s Craft Club, which makes it perfect for the current challenge at Addicted to Stamps & More.

I took inspiration from one of the cards on the project sheet (by Jane Telford) but used one of my inky mop-up pieces of card rather than creating a new background. I cut the background down to fit on a 6×6 card blank, laid the bird stencil over it and masked off the areas I didn’t want with low tack tape. I could then sponge ‘black soot’ Distress Oxide through it onto the card. I still had the ‘grunge elements’ stamps from yesterday on my desk, so grabbed my courage with both hands and added one of the dotty stamps into the background, doing some in ‘tumbled glass’ Distress Oxide and others in ‘shadow grey’ Archival.

I stopped at that point – don’t want to get too carried away! I added the ‘happy’ from the grunge stamps using black Archival ink, followed by a mount of black card and attached it to the card blank.

This is about as close as I can bring myself to get to mixed media – definitely grungy but not too full on!

  1. Great job! Good for you for stepping out of your comfort zone and giving something else a go. The final result is very nice. I like the extra spots and the gorgeous mop-up background. Thanks for joining our challenge at Addicted to Stamps and More!
