Craft Club dotted Christmas tree stencil

Hello friends. Well, true to my word, here’s a card with the stencil from last month’s Clarity Craft Club and I’m afraid it’s another Christmas card! It was the obvious theme, given the ‘dotted Christmas tree’ design on the stencil, but I’ve gone a bit more grungy on this one thanks to the colours at Creative Colour Challenges

I was very happy as I found a mop-up piece in my stash with the right colours of green & brown! I centred the stencil on it, covering the sides with low tack tape, then brushed ‘walnut stain’, ‘mowed lawn’ & ‘peeled paint’ Distress Oxides through it, working from the bottom up. I removed the stencil, covered the image with low tack tape and used the ‘hills & mountains’ masks to add the ground and background landscape with the ‘walnut stain’. With hindsight, I wish I hadn’t masked the tree off and had let the mountains flow into it…

The tree looked a little flat, so I took insiration from Barbara’s design on the project sheet that came with the stencil and added a drop shadow to each dot with a grey Polychromo pencil, followed by a little highlight with a Posca pen. It gives a gret 3D effect!

I’d cut the card down with a nested square die so it would fit on a 6×6 card blank, so added finishing touches by running a black Sharpie around the edges and stamping one of the ‘bijou ribbon sentiments‘ into the top corner.

If you’re not a member of Clarity’s Craft Clubs then it’s a great time to subscribe. You get a brand new stamp or stencil (or both!) each month together with an inspiration sheet with two projects plus discounts on any products you buy from Clarity. What’s not to like…?!
