old oak stencil

Hello crafty friends. I thought we could have a look today at one of the stencil in Clarity‘s bumper sale of back issues from their Craft Club. I’ve pulled out stencil #110 ‘wise old oak‘ to create a little landscape scene using the palette from Color Dare and the sketch from AAA Cards.

I decided to just use part of the stencil, so positioned it over the edge of a square of stencil card and used low tack tape to mask off the bottom apertures. I laid the hills mask over it and lightly brushed ‘mustard seed’ Distress Ink to create the ground. I swithced to the upper part of the hills mask, sat it slightly higher than the first one and brushed more of the ‘mustard seed’ across it, this time without re-inking my brush to give a lighter tone. I went back to the first part of the mask to cover over the top row of hills, then simply swept ‘salvaged patina’ into the sky area of the stencil.

Next was to add the fox, squirrel & flock of birds from the ‘woodland treescape’ stamp set using ‘watering can’ Archival ink, picking up the three elements in AAA’s sketch, and sponing a little of the ink across torn copy paper to ground the fox & squirrel. I thought the whole image looked a little flat, so used a grey Polychromo pencil to draw a drop shadow below all the branches and the edges of the stencilled outline. Amazing what such a simple thing can do to an image!

I then simply added a mount of Shenandoah companion paper, followed by a narrow layer of grey card, then attached it to a 6×6 card blank finishing with one of the ‘occasions – happy birthday’ sentiments in ‘watering can’

I’ve had a much quieter day today, recovering from the festive onslaught of the last couple of days, although I did manage to start tidying part of my craft room by filing all my recent Craft Club stamps & stencils!

  1. Great idea changing the shape of the rectangle with our sketch challenge. The card you created is STUNNING! I’m so glad you were able to join us at AAA Cards during the busy holiday season. Hugs! Kristin AAA Cards DT
