word chain birthday

Hello friends. Apologies for my absence yesterday – life is very full-on at the moment! Anyway, here I am with a birthday card today, as I’m trying to get ahead for a couple of friends with birthdays in early January. I’m showcasing another of ClarityCrafts‘ brilliant alphabet sets (the word chain alphabet) as their sale is still on with 30% off. I’ve teamed it with the ‘three blooms’ and ‘stripes’ stencil – I like the contrast of the grungy style letters against the clean lines of the flowers. The colours today are taken from Color Dare, the layout from Sunday Stamps and the birthday theme is from Addicted to Stamps.

I started with the middle sized flower from the stencil, centred it on a square of stencil card and brushed ‘picked raspberry’ Distress Oxide through it, taking my strokes from the centre out so that it was lighter at the ends of the petals. I then realigned the stencil, covering the areas I didn’t want, and brushed ‘peacock feathers’ through the smallest flower to put a bloom on each side of the central one. I switched to the ‘stripes’ stencil and lightly sponged ‘mowed lawn’ through part of it, trying to avoid the petals as far as possible.

I added the word chain alphabet letters using a piece of low tack tape as a guideline – I started in the middle and worked outwards on each side so it was centred, removing the tape when I got to the end for the Y! I used a micron pen to add dots around the petals of the centre flower just giving it a little more definition, then ran a black Sharpie around the card edges and attached it to a 6×6 card blank.

As you’ll have noticed, I’ve got a few of Clarity’s alphabet stamp sets, but as every crafter knows, you can never have too many!
