fox in the snow

Hello there! I just had a memory pop up on my Facebook page from two years ago when we had snow in London that lasted a week – so unusual! There’s no sign of that this year though, so here’s a snowy creative offering for you with one of the designs that I demonstrated at last month’s ClarityCrafts Open Days using the woodland treescape stamp & mask set. I’ve used these masks quite a few times since they launched, but I just love them! My little fox in the snow scene picks up the blue tones from Color Dare and the chilly theme from Addicted to CAS.

I haven’t got step-by-step photos for this one, but here’s the main process. First was to create raised frame and a 6×6 card blank using Clarity’s embedders – you can find the detailed steps for that in my take the trails… post. I ran low tack tape around the edges of a square of stencil card then, starting from the bottom, laid on all the sections of the ‘woodlands’ mask. I removed the ground areas one at a time and sponge a little ‘tumbled glass’ across the lower edges to give the effect of snow drifts. When I got to the sky, I put the top ground one back in place and left the moon mosk, then brushed ‘broken china’ and ‘chipped sapphire’ Distress Oxides into the sky area for a very wintry sky.

Having removed all the masks, I could stamp the tree and fox with black Archival ink, sponging a little ink across a piece of tirn copy paper to add a graound shadow below both of them. I edged the topper with a black Sharpie and attached it to the card front. The finishing touch was to run a Quickie glue pen along the tree branches and the snow drifts, then scatter ‘hint of blue’ Perga glitter across it to give a lovely frosty effect.

I hope it’s not too cold where you are – we’re back to a grey damp day here in North East London now last week’s Storm Darragh has passed.
