leafy wreath

Hello friends and welcome to another Monday! I’ve got a bit of a different take today on the wreath from ‘Tina’s Christmas Snowmen Elements’ by ClarityCrafts, pairing it up with the ‘leafy overlay’ stencils. I had one of those ‘I wonder what would happen if…’ moments – and this is what happened! I’ve combined the top row from TicTacToe‘s grid, the ‘leaves’ theme from Just Us Girls and the colours from The Paper Players – definitely not your typical Christmas look!

I cut a piece of stencil card to fit a 6×6 card blank and brushed ‘walnut stain’ Distress Oxide through the first set of leaves. these are large 7×7 stencils so I did the upper leaves first, masking off the lower ones with sticky notes, then moved the stencil upwards on the card and repeated the process with the lower leaves. I brushed ‘carved pumpkin’ through the second stencil, again doing the upper and lower leaves separately, finishing with ‘dried marigold’ through the third one.

I stamped the wreath in ‘potting soil’ Archival ink and coloured it in with brown & orange Pergaliner pencils.

I thought the white edges on the card looked a little hard, so softened them by brushing more of the ‘dried marigold’ in from the edge around all four sides, then ran a brown Sharpie around it and attached to a 6×6 card blank. The sentiment comes from the ‘bijou retro sentiments’ set (one of my favourites!)

I wasn’t totally sure about this when I made it, but it’s definitely grown on me! What do you think?

  2. Oh my goodness, Deborah! I love that soft stencilled look you’ve created! These colours could so easily overpower everything, yet here they are tamed and wonderful! Thanks for sharing with us again at The Paper Players.

  4. Deborah… Why Christmas? It is the perfect Thanksgiving card. I think it was brilliant to use the Christmas wreath. How you used the colors made it fall and I didn’t even notice the holly till I saw the actual stamp. What I really love is the subtle, soft stenciled background which is beautiful. That stencil could be used every season in the right colors, and always be a fabulous background. Such a great card, I can’t believe you questioned it. As always thanks so much for being in the Paper Players gallery!

  5. Those stenciled leaves are wonderful, Deborah, so soft and ethereal. Along with the wreath they made a great Fall card even though it was a Christmas stamp. Thanks for sharing it with us at Just Us Girls.

  7. I love the combination of the two elements and it really shows the versatility of the wreath stamp but for me the star of the show is definitely those stencilled leaves – just stunning! Thanks for playing along with my colour challenge over at The Paper Players this week!
