Hello there. I’m back with the latest challenge from As You See It – it’s a theme one this time and I decided it was a good opportunity to share our favourite craft items. We’ve all got those essentials (whether big or small) that we use the most on our creations and for me it’s ClarityCrafts‘ embedders – fab plastic shapes that you can emboss around with a small ball tool to create frames on your cards (just like those expensive ones you see in the posh shops!) Mind you, my Pergaliner pencils now come a close second, thanks to the online colouring lessons Barbara Gray ran in Clarity’s SHAC during the Covid lockdown.

So, along with my favourite craft items, I’m also introducing you to another of the new Pixie Poppets – here’s Monique! She’s going to go and share the love in the gallery at The Paper Players and check out the patterned papers at Love those pretty papers

But first, let me walk you through the process for this card, starting with the embedder. The trick here is to attached the embedder to the front of your card blank with a little doubled over low tack tape, then open the card out so you work on the inside. I find it easiest to use a bone folder to butt up against the edge of the embedder, working round all four side, then sharpen the crease with my small embossing tool. Turn back to the front of the card, lift it off and there’s a lovely embedded frame.

For this card, I just embossed three sides of the embedder, then attached a strip of Waimea Falls designer paper across the bottom of the card front. I stamped Monique and her little feathered friend inside the embedded frame using black Archival ink.

I coloured the sweet pair in with Pergaliners, taking the shades from the Waimea Falls paper, then used a blending nib and Dorso oil to smooth out the colours, removing any grainy effect from the pencils. I finished with a couple of sentiments from the ‘bijou retro sentiments’ set.

And that’s it. Here’s a close-up of the embedded frame – I just love it!

So come on then, what’s your favourite item to craft with? We’d love to see it in action in the As You See It challenge gallery.

Love the card and the whimsy of the stamp. Thanks for explaining how to use the embedder. I am thinking I could perhaps make one or two for myself. I’ll let you know if it works.

So creative (never heard of an ’embedder’ but you can be sure I’ll be looking for that). I love how you’ve colored your image to coordinate with the colorful bottom panel. Awesome creation! Thanks so much for joining in the fun at our Love Those Pretty Papers challenge! Good Luck and we hope you’ll come back often.

I couldn’t decide if you would go with embedder or mopped up background Deborah – both of which you use to fabulous effect! The subtle definition of the embedded frame is just lovely and pixie poppet coordinates with the strip of DSP perfectly. These new stamps are so much fun!
