Christmas hat

Hello crafty friends! ClarityCrafts have got a very timely offer on their ‘Merry Little Christmas Quotes’ stamps this week as we all start to ramp up our seasonal card making, so I thought I’d give mine a run out, paired with the bobble hat from ‘Jim’s Christmas jumper accessories’ set.

I went for a rather different colour combination on this one thanks to Color Hues, picking up the ‘headwear’ theme from Inkspirational and ‘watercolour’ from 52 Christmas Card Throwdown.

I took one of Clarity’s small stencil card squares and lightly brushed ‘wilted violet’ Distress Oxide across the two mountain masks from the ‘Riverside reflection’ set. I then popped a circle mask above them and brushed the ‘wilted violet’ across the rest of the card, without picking any more ink up on my brush. I stamped the Christmas quote in ‘watering can’ Archival ink, added a mount of Rainbow RIver companion paper and attached it to a 5×5 card blank that I’d embossed a frame onto the front of with a square embedder.

I stamped the bobble hat onto a piece of scrap card and used Pergaliner A pencils and a waterbrush to colour it. I used the direct-to-card technique, laying down the pencil colour around the edges of the image and then spreading the pigment out with the waterbrush, which gives nice shading. Once dry, I fussy cut the hat, mounted it on a bit of scrap card and glued it in place.

I’ve got a couple of friends who really enjoy hiking, and they’d definitely need woolly hats in the mountains at Christmas time!

  1. Well done going away from the obvious and choosing to create a Christmas card with these colors, Deborah! The subtle ink blending of the mountains and the cute wooly hat make this one charming CAS design. Thank you so much for joining over at Color Hues!
