3D or not 3D…

Hello friends. It’s the final day of ClarityCrafts‘ Fresh Cut Dies Bonanza weekend (ends at midnight tonight) and I couldn’t resist having a play with one of my all-time favourite dies – the ‘treescape’! I’ve got a ‘twofer’ to share, having used my die cut as a stencil as well!

So, the first thing was to cut the ‘treescape’ into a piece of white card and then cut it out with a nested square die. I wanted to focus the colour on the trees, so masked off the frame with low tack tape and laid it on another square of stencil card. I brushed ‘walnut stain’ Distress Oxide across the lower part of the trees, ‘dried marigold’ down from the top and then blended ‘ripe persimmon’ into the centre and into the two first colours. When I lifted the diecut from the card I had a fab stencilled outline to also use (and no wasted ink!)

I wanted to make the trees stand out more against the background, so recut the die into a piece of dark brown card, leaving a wide border. I glued the back of the first diecut and sat it on the brown one, taking it slightly up and to the left so that I got a drop shadow.

Using a paper trimmer, I cut the brown card to leave a narrow border. I used a square embedder to emboss a frame on the front of a 6×6 card blank and attached the topper to it, finishing with a Pinky Gray greetings sticker that I’d also mounted on a piece of brown card. This one’s heading off to The Paper Players gallery, having picked up the right hand diagonal of embossing, diecut & monochromatic from their grid.

Back to the stencilled piece and I used one of the ‘film strip’ square doodle frame-it panel dies to cut a frame around it.

I simple added a mount of the brown card and finished with one of the KISS word stickers, again mounted on the brown card. Just Us Girls have got their stencil week currently, so this will pop into their gallery.

So that’s a few more options for getting the most out of your dies. I do love the drop shadow look on the layered die cut – it’s a fab 3D effect.

  2. This is a wonderful creation and getting a twofer is a bonus. I love how the 3D one looks especially. Brilliant and clever go well together here.

  3. I love it when you can use a die as a stencil – it gives you so much more versatility! This is a great ‘two-fer’ too – and adding the drop shadow does lift the diecut version ever so slightly and add extra dimension. Simple and fabulously autumnal – so glad you shared with us at The Paper Players this week too!
