Christmas rose

Hello crafty peeps! Today I’ve got a card to share that I didn’t even have time to show on TV this weekend, so it’s here instead as a little treat for your Monday. This week Inspire.Create have challenged us to CASE (copy & selectively edit) Karen’s design team card – I’ve picked up the central image and the split background (although mine has a straight edge), and added in the flower theme from 52 Christmas Card Throwdown

I do love the effect of pencil colouring on kraft card – I started by heat embossing the ‘Chrisstmas rose’ image in gold and then used a combination of Pergaliner pencils to shade in the flowers.

I also heat embossed a couple of the sentiments from the set onto a strip of green companion paper (great way to use up an off-cut). I was just going to attach it to the 6×6 card blank, but thought it needed something more adding, so repeat stamped the ‘Christmas rose’ onto the card front simply using Versamark clear ink, then glued the paper in place.

I cut my kraft topper with a nested circle die and added a mount of white card using one of the ‘foliage’ nested circle doodle frame-it panel dies. With that in place, the card was done.

Now, here’s a fun fact for you… Christmas roses are hellebores and got their name because they flower from late winter into spring, but they’re not roses! The Royal Horticultural Society website tells me that they’re part of the buttercup family – you live and learn!

  1. Beautiful! The pencil coloring on colored cardstock is a favorite look of mine. I like that you stamped on the background, it adds some interest. I appreciate the lesson in horticulture- always learning! Thanks for sharing your card with us at Inspire.Create.Challenges.
