birch tree blessings

Hello crafty friends. I’ve revisited ClarityCrafts ‘birch trees’ stamp set for today’s card, picking up a few of the prompts from Festive Friday (clean & simple, card, stamps & a ‘for you’ sentiment – I think the blessing counts on that one!). As it’s a CAS style, I’m also going to share it with Simply Clean & Simple.

I wanted to create a background for the trees while keeping them pale. There aren’t pre-cut masks with this set and it felt very fiddly to cut them myself – instead, I stamped the trees onto a piece of watercolour card using black Archival ink then coloured around them, using ‘salvaged patina’ & ‘everygreen bough’ Distress Oxides and a waterbrush. After letting it dry, I shaded in the tree trunks with grey Polychromo pencils.

Now, after yesterday’s shock of a card without an embedder frame, you’ll be relieved to know this card is back on trend! I used a large rectangle embedder on a 5×7 card blank, then attached the topper having run a black Sharpie around the edges. I added the blessing, again with black Archival ink, finishing with one of the birds from the ‘just woodland & birds’ set.

I love the effect you can get with pencil colouring on watercolour card – perfect for the texture on the tree trunks.
