vintage at As You See It challenge

Here we are at Friday again! Our new theme at As You See It challenge starts today and Jan has opted for ‘vintage or shabby chic’ this time round. Now neither of these are my strong suit, but I figured that kraft card and a dried teabag ought to give me a vintage feel! I went with a traditional Christmas wreath too, from the new ‘Christmas Elements’ collection designed by Tina Cox for ClarityCrafts, which I’ll be launching on Create and Craft TV tomorrow (Sat 17th) at 1pm & 4pm.

So, first thing was to sort my teabag – I left it to dry on a pice of kitchen towel, then gently tore along one side to empty out the leaves. I used a glue stick to attach it to a small square of stencil card (wet glue will soak through & take ages to dry!) and stamped the wreath on it with black Archival ink. Teabags take pencil colouring really well, so I just used Pergaliners to shade the wreath in traditional red & green, highlighting the little hearts with a white gel pen.

I used a square embedder on a 6×6 kraft card blank to create a frame, then popped the topper on a narrow black mount and attached it to the card front. The finishing touch was the sentiment, again stamped with black Archival ink.

So I hope you can join me on Create & Craft TV tomorrow where I’ll be sharing the rest of this fab collection. In the meantime though, come on over to As You see It and add your vintage or shabby chic style cards to our gallery. I’m going to share this one in the gallery at The Holly and Ivy for their ‘anything Christmas goes’ theme.

  1. You amaze me! I would never have thought to stamp ON a teabag! Distressing paper with a wet teabag – yes, stamping on it – no! It takes on an almost Elizabethan look as your lovely wreath could just as easily be an embroidery. Lovely work and very creative thinking. Good luck with your TV presentation. 🙂
