Guest designer at Color Throwdown 805

Hello there! Exciting news today, as I’ve been invited along to the latest Color Throwdown challenge as theur guest designer! We’ve got a lovely palette of red, yellow & green to play with and I decided to go with a bunch of summery flowers thanks to ClarityCrafts ‘star flower spray’ stamp and stencil (not forgetting the new stripes stencil from the weekend’s shows too!). They also pick up the flowers & stripes from the moodboard at Hand Stamped Sentiments and work beautifully for the ‘blooms’ part of Triple B‘s challenge and Time Out‘s summer theme.

I cut my stencil card to fit a 5×7 card blank, then brushed ‘festive berries’ and ‘mowed lawn’ Distress Oxides through the ‘star flower spray’ stencil. I switched to the thin stripes stencil to brush more of the ‘mowed lawn’ into the background, with a light dusting of ‘squeezed lemonade’ down from the top, keeping my brish strokes running straight down the lines of the stencil. I repositioned itto cover up the intial stripes and then repeated the process without reinking my brush, to fill in the gaps between the stripes.

Next was to stamp the A6 ‘star flower spray’ image in black Archival ink, sitting it on top of the stencilled image (a technique for which I have to thank Eileen Godwin from the Clarity design team!) I was going to leave the stamped image just as an outline but decided it would look better shaded in, so filled in the flowers & leaves with Pergaliner pencils. I also stencilled a few green horizontal stripes across the lower part of the card for added interest!

After adding one of the ‘special day sentiments’ (these are great for birthdays), I ran a black Sharpie around the card edges, sat it on a mount of Indian Summer companion paper and attached it to a 5×7 card blank.

Huge thanks to the Color Throwdown team for inviting me to guest with them. Now it’s over to you to put these colours to good use and share your creations in the gallery!
