forest recipe for As You See It challenge 329

Hello friends and welcome to a new challenge at As You See It! Heather has given us a great recipe to work with and I opted to feature one of my favourite ClarityCrafts stencils – the ‘treescape’. I went with the sketch from Atlantic Hearts and will also share it with Can You Handle The Pressure (I didn’t take their optional twist of ‘wings’).

Now, Clarity don’t make embossing folders, but their stencils are really robust so I started by running the ‘treescape’ through my embossing machine onto a piece of stencil card, using a rubber shim. This effectively ‘debosses’ the trees into the card, so I lifted the stencil off, turned the card over so that the trees stood out, repositioned the stencil and then brushed ‘iced spruce’, ‘lucky clover’ and ‘evergreen bough’ Distress Oxides through it. It’s difficult to capture the 3D effect of embossing the stencil in the photos!

I cut a circle aperture into a piece of white card, then embossed a frame around it using a round embedder and mounted it onto a layer of Waimea Falls companion paper. I’d originally intended to put my embossed treescape scene behind the aperture, but had one of my senior moments and cut it with the circle die! Doh! So instead I slotted it into the aperture – a lucky rescue!

I cut a border from the Waimea Falls paper using two nested circle dies and attached that around the image, so it sat just within the embossed frame. I mounted one of the Pinky Gray greetings stickers onto a scrap bit of the green paper, then wound some gold twine around it, added a mount with scrap card and attached that to the card to finish.

So that’s all five of Heather’s recipe elements included – trees, embossing, twine, birthday and shades of green. What can you do with this recipe – we’d love to see your creations in the As You see It gallery!

  1. Oh I love this, until I read your post I thought it was a die cut not stencilling. Perfect! Thanks for playing along with the Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge (AHSC).
