Hello crafty friends. Well, I’ve really gone for it with a couple of ClarityCrafts stencils on this card for the our new masculine theme at Sparkles Challenge! Eileen Godwin on the Clarity design team does amazing things with stencils and I’ve taken a little inspiration from her blending techniques for this one, which I’m also going to share with Stencil Fun (there’s a bit of blue in here to pick up their optional twist) and with Seize the Birthday.

To start, I simply laid the stag onto a piece of 7×7 stencil card and started brushing Distress Oxides into the design. Working from the hooves up, I use ‘walnut stain’, ‘festive berries’, ‘ripe persimmon’, ‘dried marigold’, ‘broken china’ and ‘chipped sapphire’! I got a little bleed around his antlers from the ink, but thought I could probably disguise that with the background…

I switched to the ‘birch trees’ stencil and lightly brushed the ‘walnut stain’ in from the bottom and ‘broken china’ from the top.

I trimmed the stencil card down so it would fit on a 7×7 card blank and added a mount of black card, finishing with the sentiment from the ‘celebrations 1’ stamp set.

So, is this a psychedelic or rainbow stag? Either way, I think he looks very majestic!

I love the colorful Stag, Deborah. Such a unique and terrific idea. It definitely gets your attention and if you would have made him all brown he would have been lost in the trees. Thanks for linking up at Seize the Birthday.
