Hello crafty friends and welcome to our new challenge at CAS Colours & Sketches. It’s time for sketch this time round – I rotated it, as one of the new ‘Tina’s bijou retro stamps’ from Clarity Crafts was the perfect shape! I decided to also pick up the tones from the moodboard at Just Us Girls

This is another nice and simple one, but I’ve got a key tip about the pencil colouring! I took a small square of the Amazonia designer paper, choosing a fairly muted piece, and stamped the banners image onto it with black Archival ink. I then coloured it with Pergaliner B pencils, just choosing two shades that complemented the designer paper. One of the things I find when colouring a larger area is that it can look a bit grainy, which is where the Dorso Oil came in! It’s designed for parhcment, but works perfectly on the designer paper and card as well. Just pop a little on a spot-on sponge, pick it up with a blending nib, and go over the shaded area – the oil will smooth out the pigment and remove the grainy appearance. Guess who forgot to take ‘before’ & ‘after’ pics at this point….

Anyway, having done that, I used a ruler and a Sharpie pen to add a border to my paper. I created a frame on a 5×5 card blank with a square embedder, then simply attached the paper into the centre, adding one of the ‘bijou retro sentiments’ to finish.

So do come on over to CAS Colours & Sketches and play with our sketch – there’s more fabulous inspiration from my design team-mates over on the blog to get your started!

Great colours and the design is amazing. I read somewhere that you can do the same thing with baby oil but one has to be careful not to add too much. I use Gamsol with my Prisma pencils sometimes.

Love the hues you took from our moodboard this week at Just us Girls! Your banners remind me of nautical flags too. Thanks so much for playing along with us!
