black & white recipe at As You See It

Hello everyone! We’re back with a new challenge at As You See It and Jan has given us this fabulous recipe board. Well, it was a no-brainer for me – I went straight to the new ‘calligraphy girls’ stamp set from ClarityCrafts! There’s a bit of an Audrey Hepburn feel to this one!

Now, for our recipe challenges you need to incorporate all the listed elements onto your card. Clarity don’t make embossing folders, so I reached for my favourite embedders to emboss a frame onto my card front. I stepped it up a bit on this one, starting with the inner edge of one of the nested embedders then adding a standard square one in the centre of it. The clever thing about this is that the two edges emboss in opposite directions, so that gave me a raised frame!

I took a piece of the BOW-WOB (black-on-white, white-on-black) collage paper and attached that to the card front inside the frame. I then stamped one of the ‘calligraphy girls’ onto card I’d cut with a nested oval picot die and shaded her with a red Pergaliner pencil.

I stamped the sentiment in the bottom right corner, but wanted to offset it (it’s in a straight line). I covered ‘happy’ with masking tape so I could ink ‘birthday’ and and stamp it (take the tape off first!!), then reversed the process to sit ‘happy’ above it. I added scrap card on the back of the die cut and sat it in the centre of the card, finishing with a few red Glossies dots.

So that’s all the elements on my card – an embossed frame (in place of a folder), lots of black & white, a die cut topper and red for my additional colour. Come on over and join us – we’d love to see how you put our recipe into action!

  1. This is awesome, Deb! I think the stylized woman created the kind of drama I was thinking of when we put this challenge together! And all the little extra touches just made it!!
