C for Car at Alphabet Challenge

Hello there and welcome to something a wee bit different today – my first attempt at collage on a card! Our new theme at Alphabet Challenge is C for Car, which made ClarityCrafts ‘wings & wheels’ stamp set an obvious choice – and I decided the Darjeeling Infusions collage papers would make a perfect background, inspired by Festive Friday challenge (I picked up brown, paper tearing & mountains from their list).

I started with half a 6×6 card blank and brushed ‘walnut stain’ Distress Oxide across the mountains mask to start the background. I then filled in the sky by blending ‘salvaged patina’ across the clouds mask. Next was to take a piece of the Darjeeling paper and tear it into strips to build up the rest of the background. I wasn’t brave enough to tear it freehand at first, so used the wavy and decked edges of Clarity’s blending mat for the first few pieces. I then gathered all my courage and tore the final piece freehand – the paper’s such good quality it was really easy! I glued the four strips together, one on top of the other and then attached the whole piece to the bottom part of the square card.

I stamped the car onto a scrap piece of card using black Archival ink, coloured it with blue Pergaliner pencils and fussy cut it. I stuck a little scrap card on the back and attached it to the card front. The finishing touches were edging the topper with a black Sharpie, creating an frame on a 7×7 card blank with a square embedder before attaching the topper, and adding a Father’s Day sentiment.

This card brings back happy memories of driving through New Zealand last year on holiday with friends – we had a wonderful day in Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park and travelling around the area with the most amazing scenery
