Christmas in bloom

Hello there! I haven’t kept up with my ambition of a Christmas card each week for a little while now, so it’s time to rectify the situation. I’ve gone back to ClarityCrafts ‘three blooms’ stencil with some alternative colours to make a poinsettia on this card.

So, I started with half a 5×5 card blank and brushed ‘salvaged patina’ Distress Oxide through the stencil, covering the other flowers with sticky notes. I lined up up the middle size flower, again covering up the other blooms, and brushed ‘peacock feathers’ through it. Finally, I switched to the smallest bloom, again masking the rest of the stencil, and sponged ‘hickory smoke’ into the centre of the flower.

I was just going to stamp the two main sentiments from the ‘occasions – merry Christmas’ set on the card (using ‘watering can’ Archival ink) but felt it all looked too angular. Instead I repeat stamped both of them across the flower using second generation images (which means I stamped the ink off first on copy paper before then stamping the card). A mount of grey card and a 6×6 card blank finished things off.

I do like using other products to make my Christmas cards – it gets more mileage out of them. Both Christmas Craft Creations and Sparkles Christmas are looking for non-traditional colours this time round, so I’ll head over there to share this. See you tomorrow!

  1. How cool this is – love the way you used these stencils, and stamped off the sentiments all around – such a great effect! Thanks so much for playing at Sparkles!

  2. Pretty design in non-traditional colors for our Christmas Craft Creations challenge this month! Really nice way to use that stencil and the repeated sentiments.
