retro hearts

Hello again crafty friends – can you believe it’s the weekend already?! Life is spinning by at speed. Well, you’ve seen from my posts this week that I’m a fan of the new Retro stamps from ClarityCrafts – so much so, in fact, that I invested in the ‘hearts & leaves’ set that I didn’t get in my design team pack! They arrived very quickly, so had to come out to play.

I’ve actually managed to combine three blog challenges on today’s card: the colours are from Creative Colour, the layout from Atlantic Hearts and the hearts theme from Global Design Project

I started by stamping the leafy hearts image into the centre of a piece of Clarity’s stencil card. I wanted to add the stripes from AHSC’s sketch in the background so needed to maks the image. Out came a piece fo Clarity’s reusable mask material to create one! The easiest way to do this is to stamp the image onto a piece of copy paper, place the mask material over the top and cut round the image. You can then remove the copy paper leaving the cut mask, plus you still have the carrier sheet to store it back on. So, mask in place, I created the central stripe with a couple of pieces of low tack tape and brushed ‘stormy sky’ Distress Oxide into the gap. I move the bottom strip down and blended ‘blueprint sketch’ below the first stripe, then added ‘broken china’ at the top.

I think I over-blended the ‘blueprint sketch’ ink onto the central stripe, so went back to the ‘stormy sky’ to colour the large heart with a waterbrush, then switched to ‘broken china’ for the two smaller ones.

I used an large square embedder to create a frame on the front of a 6×6 card blank, ran a black Sharpie around the edge of the topper and attached it within the frame. The final step was to stamp the sentiment across the centre.

This really is a fabulous image – I can see it working for lots of occasions.
