Welcome to my crafty blog and our first challenge of 2024 at As You See It! Heather C has given us this great sketch to work with – I swapped the hearts for butterflies from ClarityCrafts‘ ‘SHAC peace – Japanese flowers & butterflies’ stamp set, and picking up the colours from Colorful Options (a new-to-me challenge)

I started with a piece of Antarctica designer paper that I found in my stash (just the right size!), mounted it on a layer of co-ordinating cardstock and attached it to a 5×7 card blank. I then stamped the butterfly four times onto a piece of scrap card, shaded them with two pink Pergaliner pencils and fussy cut each one (unlike the other day, I did actually cut round the anennae this time!)

I stamped one of the ‘occasions’ sentiments onto a strip of white card (also from my scraps box!), cut the end into a banner and stuck a strip of scrap card onto the back, then attached it to the card front. I glued bits of card onto the back of the butterflies to give them a little more dimension, then added them to the card front too.

I have to confess that I’m feeling rather pleased with myself given all the scrap pieces and offcuts that I’ve managed to use on this card – not that it seems to have made much of a dent in my scraps box! That aside, we’d love to see how you use our sketch on your cards – this challenge runs until Thursday 18th January.

Beautiful colour in the background piece, and lovely job on the butterflies, which are a great substitute for the hearts in the sketch, Deb! I often wonder why I bother keeping a stash, since I so rarely use it, then every once in awhile it comes in handy, but not often enough to keeping it from growing!
