winter trees for CAS Colours & Sketches

Hello crafty friends. It’s time for a new challenge at CAS Colours & Sketches and Nancy has a sketch for us. It immediately made me think of three trees, so I went back to the ‘winter wishes’ set from Linda’s Christmas Compendium by Clarity Crafts. I opted for the colours from the left hand column on Color Dare‘s tictactoe chart and added in the ‘anything CAS goes’ theme from Less is More and picked up the moodboard from Peace on Earth

The first step was to create a frame on the front of a 6×6 card blank with one of the square embedders (I went with rounded corners on this one). I then ran low tack tape around the sides of the frame and used Clarity’s stencil brushes to blend ‘speckled egg’ Distress Oxide across the clouds mask and ‘mowed lawn’ across the hills mask to create the background. I used the opposite side of the hills mask to cover up the lower part of the landscape and then stamped three of the ‘winter wishes’ trees onto the card front using ‘peacock feathers’ Distress Oxide (I went with the larger tree in the centre and then added the medium one either side).

Finally, I stamped one of the ‘occasions’ sentiments across the tree trunks, using ‘watering can’ Archival ink.

I am rather partial to a one layer card, but yours doesn’t has to be if you play along with us at CAS Colours & Sketches. Just make sure the layout reflects our sketch and that it follows the CAS guidelines on the blog – we’d love to see you in our gallery!

  1. I so almost went with trees too Deborah – and I’m so glad I didn’t, as yours are better than the design in my head!! Love the embossed frame – such a useful technique on a one layer card.
