watercolour trees

Hello crafty friends. I’ve kept playing with Linda’s Christmas Compendium stamps from ClarityCrafts and done a bit more mixing and matching on this card, using the trees from ‘Deep in the Forest’ and ‘Home for Christmas’. I’ve taken the colours from Creative Colour Challenges and the foliage theme from Sparkles Christmas challenge, together with watercolouring for Happy Little Stampers

I started with a square of watercolour card and stamped the tree from ‘Deep in the Forest’ first, using black Archival ink. I cut a mask for the tree from a piece of Clarity’s reusable mask material, covered the image and then added the tree from ‘Home for Christmas’ on either side, together with one of the ‘occasions’ sentiments.

I used an aqua Pergaliner pencil to add some initial shading to the trees then used my waterbrush to distribute the pigment across the images. This is a great way of getting shading depth when colouring – add the pencil colour where you want it darker and then the waterbrush will spread a lighter shade. I added a yellow circle and spread that out with the brush, then coloured with blue around the edge of the trees and watercoloured that. Finally, I ran a little more green along the bottom of the trees to ground them.

I mounted the card onto a layer of green and attached it to a 6×6 card blank. I decided to add a few silver gems to the trees as a final touch for that Christmas effect.

I rather like this as a daytime theme with the sun in the background – this may have to go to one of my friends in the Southern hemisphere!
