Sparkles challenge – Alice in Wonderland

Hello crafty friends! We’ve got a new challenge over at Sparkles challenges – this month Zowie has challenged us to use an Alice in Wonderland theme for our creations. Well this definitely was a bit of a poser for me, as I don’t have anything that immediately fits the bill but then I remembered the scene in the Disney film where Alice meets the card soldiers who are applying red paint to the white roses they planted by mistake before the Queen of Hearts sees them. So that’s what I based this card on, using the ‘rose & brick wall’ stamp set from ClarityCrafts. I’m back in my favourite CAS style, so am also going to share this one with Simply Clean & Simple.

The first step was to stamp the brick wall onto a square of white card. I covered it with the pre-cut mask that’s part of the set and then stamped the roses on top, so that they look like they’re growing up behind the wall. I shaded the with Pergaliner pencils, just colouring the top part of the flowers to represent the paint running down onto the white petals.

I sponged a little green ink across one of the landscape masks to ground the brick wall, then created a sky effect with a clouds mask and a stencil brush that I’d already had blue ink on – I just used what was still on the brush to keep the sky light.

I finished with one of the ‘occasions’ sentiments, mounted the topper on a layer of red card and attached it to a 6×6 card blank.

I hope you like my Alice in Wonderland interpretation! How are you inspired by the theme? Come on over to Sparkles and play along with us!

  1. Lovely card, those subtle details of the grass and sky are just the right touch. Clever take on the Sparkles theme too! Thanks for playing along at Simply Clean & Simple!
