Grandad’s trees

Hello there. Today’s card uses some of the latest Word Chain stamps from ClarityCrafts, together with their ‘birch trees’. I’ve pulled a few current challenges together in this design: the new theme of ‘outdoors’ at Global Design Project, the right hand column of square card, masculing & leaves from TicTacToe‘s grid, and the photo of the autumn trees in the centre of Inkspirational‘s moodboard.

I started once again with an inky mop-up piece of 7×7 stencil card from my stash (I have a lot of these!) I stamped the birch trees trunks first, using black ink for the outlines then sponging ‘weathered wood’, ‘pumice stone’ & ‘walnut stain’ Distress Oxides onto the infill stamps to add the colour.

I trimmed the card down to fit a 6×6 blank and stamped ‘for my grandad’ in black using a mixture of the Word Chain stamps. I used a square nested die to cut that area out, added the leaves from the birch trees set in ‘weathered wood’ & ‘pumice stone’, then mounted background on black card & onto a 6×6 card blank.

I felt the tree top needed more definition, so added some more leaves in black (I ran some masking tape along the card edge to protect it while I stamped them). I finished by mounting the die cut square onto a black layer, added a piece of scrap card below it to fill in the gap in the background and then attached it to the card front.

These tree stamps are great for masculine cards and I do like the funky font of the word chain stamps – they give the cards a fun look!

  1. I love that you showed us the process in pictures. Great idea adding leaves and putting the sentiment part on a panel. Beautiful! Thanks for sharing your card with us at INKspirational.
