Canada geese

Hello there. I’ve just had a couple of inspiration filled days at ClarityCrafts‘ annual retreat, where I also did a little light shopping and treated myself to the ‘feathered friends miniatures’ stamp set. If you’re anything like me, then you’ll want to use new goodies as soon as they’re out of the shopping bag, so here’s a card with them in action! I’ve take the sketch from Atlantic Hearts and the tones from Creative Colour Challenges.

I started by trimming a piece of Clarity’s stencil card down to fit a 6×6 card blank and attached the ‘abstract squares 3’ stencil to it with a masking tape hinge down one side. I drew a pencil line along the bottom of the two largest rectangles then flipped the stencil to the side and stamped the two geese images in ‘potting soil’ Archival ink, sitting them on the pencil marks. I then masked off the geese (with the precut shapes that come with the set) then put the stencil back down and brushed ‘rustic wilderness’ and ‘ripe persimmon’ Distress Oxides through it.

I removed the stencil (but left the birds masked) and popped the outer part of a circle mask onto the card, brushing a little more ‘ripe persimmon’ through it to create a sun. I then coloured the geese with a brown and a black Pergaliner pencil, so they looked like Canada geese (I had to look up a photo on Google to make sure I got the shading in the right place, so I hope my birdwatching friends approve!)

For the finishing touches, I added the flock of birds and a sentiment from Clarity’s ‘Occasions’ set, both in black Versafine Clair ink. I ran a black Sharpie around the card edges and then attached it to a 6×6 card blank.

Thanks for dropping in. We get quite a few Canada geese in the parks around us, so I may need to make a few more of these!
