kingfisher

Hello crafty friends! Today’s card features one of my older ClarityCrafts stamps – the kingfisher, which I bought way back when the stamps came ready mounted on the mounts! I really thought it ought to see the light of day again – and it’s part of the current Design of the Week offer at 30% off (celebrating Clarity’s 30th birthday). Not only that, but this is my 1000th post since I launched this little old blog three and a half years ago! I’ve picked up the colours from Just Us Girls on this card (although the lighting on some of my photos is a bit dark, so the bright yellow gold looks a bit orangey!) and the outdoors theme from Simply Clean & Simple

I started with a small piece of Clarity’s stencil card that I’d previously mopped up some green ink on and stamped the kingfisher into place. I cut a mask from an all-over sticky note for his head and then used a circle mask to add a sun behind him with ‘mustard seed’ Distress Oxide.

Kingfisher feathers have the most gorgeous sheen on them, so I used a couple of my Perfect Pearl mica powders mixed with water to paint the colour onto the bird, then used a black Polychromo pencil to shade in his beak. This photo actually shows the colours as they are!

I added one of the ‘Occasions’ sentiments, mounted it on a layer of black card and then to a 6×6 card blank.

Thanks for dropping in. I’ve had a fabulous day first day at Clarity’s annual two day retreat, being inspired by Barbara Gray, learning new techniques and connecting with friends in the Clarity community. Back there for more tomorrow!

  1. 1000 posts – amazing. I watch birds and love kingfishers. You captured this one perfectly and adding in the sheen of the feathers is inspired.
